By Daniel Korleski, MBA
There are many reasons you probably chose your career. Maybe it was the excitement of future opportunities, the salary, or the flexibility. For me, my reason was simple: I wanted a career where I could have a significant impact on people’s lives. We all know that money, and how you handle it, can make or break your life. I became a financial advisor so that by helping people with their money, I am helping them with the rest of their lives too.
FIRST STEPS
That’s the big picture. Here’s how it all happened. After graduating from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance, I spent many years gaining experience in the financial industry, including time spent as the managing director for Investment Trust Company, chief investment officer for the Wealth Management Group at American National Bank in Denver and regional investment manager for the Greater Colorado Region of the Private Bank at Wells Fargo. To deepen my knowledge, I earned my MBA in investment management from Midwestern State University. I even got the incredible opportunity to contribute to the city of Colorado Springs’ Investment Advisory Committee when I was appointed by the mayor in 2008.
What you may notice is that I spent the bulk of my career in the portfolio management arena. But through the years, I began to see how important financial planning is to my clients’ financial future. Yes, you should invest your money to reach your future goals, but it’s about so much more than that. Your financial life involves your day-to-day decisions, your long-term dreams, your business, your children, and on and on. Comprehensive financial planning quickly became a passion of mine because I saw the clarity and confidence it gave to my clients. That’s why, in 2012, I took the plunge and founded Cobalt Private Wealth.
MY CAREER TODAY
Now, with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, I serve as president and chief investment officer at Cobalt Private Wealth. I spend my days helping my clients (specifically entrepreneurs, veterans, and their families) grow, manage, and protect their wealth through customized financial planning and investment management. I prioritize proper risk management, provide support and guidance through stressful financial times, such as market drops or personal crises, and help people avoid traditional financial mistakes so they can walk toward their future with excitement instead of worry.
THE BEST PART
Hands down, the best part of my job is getting feedback from my clients about how much our services have changed their lives. My favorite days are the ones where I present a financial plan to a client, showing them that not only will they be okay in retirement but will thrive financially, and see the look of relief and joy on their face. I feel privileged to carry some of the financial burden for my clients so they can focus on the things that matter most to them.
